Whole year/term reflection

I honestly cannot believe that the year is over. It has felt like time went by fast. This is my whole year/term reflection. This term might just be my favourite term out of them all. There were awesome events like privegiving and graduation. Anyways here we go one more time.

If you haven’t seen my other reflections. I will be doing a short summary of each term. Term 1 saw me returning back to school. I didn’t think school would be on, but I was wrong. Since covid happened, we didn’t really get to do much sport. However we did have our own little competition against the boys. Also meeting my new classmates was another cool thing. Overall term 1 was better then I had expected.

In Term 2 that is when everything went back to how it was. Thankfully we got out year 8 camp, which was a blast! I had so much more with my friends and the activities were cool too. It was also the term where sports started back up. I had awesome times at the tournaments. Also getting into the habit of being a student leader really kicked in during this term.

Now I didn’t think term 3 could top term 2, but it did. Mrs Stone returned and she was the best teacher ever. I also was in 3 sports teams. Like Basketball,Netball and League. Like term 2 I had so much fun at the tournaments. Plus my teammates were so fun to hang out with.

So now that you are caught up here are my favourite highlights/memories from this term. First up is sports. This term we had Volleyball once again and Athletics. For Volleyball this term it was just a boys team and a girls team. On the EZ tournament both of our teams came first, which got us to the finals. We travelled all the way to the North Shore to compete in the Auckland Champs. There were some tough competition there.  Overall I had a great time with my team. In my team was Luka,Ema,Mariko,Matelita,Legacy,Lynette,Khalia,Kolotita and Emeline. We were coached by Miss Timmi.

We also had our annual Athletics Day. That day was super fun and I placed in 2 categories. I came first in discus and third in shot put. I then had to prepare for the EZ tournament, but that sadly didn’t happen due to the weather. However we did our measurements and found out who got into the IZ tournament. I was one of them along with Matelita,Emeline,Leonora,Khalia,Petero,Exodus,Lincoln,Roman and Israel. This was another tough tournament, but I came out with some pretty fun memories.

Something huge that happened was the Maniakalani Film Festival. We didn’t get to this last year because of covid, but we did get to do it this year. I had such a fun time seeing the movies. My favourite one out of them was Room 3’s trick shots From PES. I also got to sit in the comfy chairs at the back, so that was a plus on that day.

The year 8’s also got a day to themselves. Since the year 7’s went on there rainbows end trip. It was a nice relaxing day. We got to do this mask art in the morning block. Then got to have some free time along with finishing our art in the middle block. In the last block we watched a movie. I loved that day because it was just the year 8’s. We got to make fun videos and memories with each other.

Another huge thing that happened was prizegiving. It was the best thing ever. I was first nervous to see what awards I got, but once I got them all I was very proud of myself. I got a total of 6 awards. They were Team spirit (League),Netball player of the year,Sportswoman of the year (along with Ema),Service to the School, A Scholarship from KPMG and a scholarship from Tamaki College. Also doing our dance we had been preparing to do felt so great getting to do it. Prizegiving was the best day ever and I’m so happy that it happened. Also congrats to everyone who got a prize.

These events happened on the last week of school. Graduation was a fun time. Everyone looked nice for the occasion. The food was delicious. I was also very excited to hear what the teachers had to say about each student. I would say that Mrs Stone got mine spot on. We also got to perform our dance once again. Also getting to take some photos with my friends was also a nice thing.

The day after that we got to spend the day at the papakura pools. Luckily it was good weather and I had so much fun. There was a bombing pool were 4 of us got to go at a time. I went on that a bunch of times with my friends. There was also a slide which was fun. We got to do some fun games at the outside pools and even did a big whirlpool. I also had some pretty nice food with my friends. We even played the last card on our way back from the pools. That was a nice trip to send the year 8’s off from Pt England.

The last day was emotional. It was only a half day so that only made our time limited. We did our farewells to some of the staff. Each class got there final send off with their teacher. Mrs Stone gave each of the year 8’s a block letter of their first initial. Then the day was over. We did cry, but we did get to do a group photo with just the year 8’s. We also did some t-shirt signing which was a good way to end off our year.

So there you have it. This was my reflection of this year. I have had a great time at PES, especially these past 2 years. I have created my favourite memories at that school. I’m not sure if I’m ready to leave, but I do know that I have made my mark at PES. To the team 5 teachers thank you for making these past 2 years the best years of my life. To the year 7’s I wish all of you the best for next year and remember that you guys are the leaders. Now to the year 8’s a huge thanks goes out to you guys for making these last 8 YEARS at PES the best. I will forever cherish our memories we have made with each other. I’m gonna miss seeing you guys everyday next year, but I do know that it is our time now. You guys are the best and I wish all of you guys the best for college!

Term 3 Reflection!

Can’t believe Term 3 is already over. Now this Term has been jam pack with awesome things. From sports to events that have happened. This term has definitely topped last term. I’m really excited to share my top highlights/memories from this term. Also I’ve been a year 8 for 3 TERMS!

Now I’m going to get this one out of the way first. SPORTS! I have been in 3 sports this term. Which is Netball,Basketball and League. There have also been some crazy tournaments as well.Like last time I’m going to be talking about these sports individually.

First up Basketball. Basketball was early in the term. It was actually my first time doing basketball. Same as most of my team. The team I was in consisted of Kiarah,Lesieli,Nora,Naomi,Luka,Matelita,Kamryn,Queenie and Atawhai. We were coached by Miss Timmi and had some support from Miss Tipene. We ended up coming 5th, but I was still very happy with that.

Next up League. My league team was pretty much our union team. Although we had never done league before we still did very well. We ended up coming second in eastern. Which got us into Auckland Champs. Over there we ended up coming 5th. I did really enjoy playing with this team even through our hardships. My team included of Kiarah,Lesieli,Mariko,Ema,Fifita,Karoline,Queenie,Khalia,Melemanu,Emeline,Cherish,Lynch and Mateita (Sorry to those I forgot). We were also coached by Miss Timmi once again and had help from Tyson.

Now last Netball. This year Netball has been a BLAST for me. I got MVP for my team for prizegiving. Also my team ended up coming 5th in our pool. However we also got to compete in some amazing tournaments. Such as the Eastern Zone where we came 2nd in.  We also got into Auckland Champs and came 12th. Which honestly wasn’t that bad since it was our first time. I am so thankful for the group of girls I ave played with this year. I’m going to miss playing with yous.We also got to compete in the Mixed Tournament in Week 10. My team came in second just loosing by 2 to Sylvia Park. That game was tough. In that team involved Roman,Bronson,Exodus,Petero,Luka,Kiarah,Cherish,Naomi,Kamryn and Ema. So proud of both teams I was in.

We have also had some events that have happened. First one being CROSS COUNTRY. We hadn’t done Cross Country in 2 years so it was a huge deal to do it this year. At first I wasn’t excited, but in the end I’m glad I did it. We also had our school Art Expo. Which showcased all the things the school had been preparing. My favourite one would have to be the Team 4 Rappers. They had some funny lyrics and a good message overall about not bullying.

We have also had some special assemblies. Since there have been a lot of things happening. Such as language weeks. I was apart of Tongan Language Week. That assembly was probably my favourite. The performances were awesome. The final assembly for the term was also coo. Seeing the highlights were pretty cool to. I am so grateful for the team that I have worked with. They will always have some of my best memories.

Tech is another thing that has happened. We switched classes midway through the term. I am in Mr Grundy’s Class. Which is Hard Materials. We have been making necklaces. Right now my one is up to the sanding stage. I am also making a knife, which I plan on giving to my uncle.

Lastly having Mrs Stone back has been so fun. I have really enjoyed having her back. She has taught me new things in a fun way. Also having Miss Georgia who is our student teacher. She was done some pretty cool lesson with us. One of them being with raro! I can’t wait to see what Mrs Stone has in next for term 4.

So there you have it. My memories/highlights for this term. I am honestly really bummed out that the term has came to an end. I am still in disbelief that I have 1 more term until I go. I’m honestly not ready to go, but I am ready for the memories I make next term. It doesn’t feel real to me yet that I have 1 more term. Anyways I am really excited to see what is there to come in my last ever term at PES, I hope that it tops every single one of these terms.

The Journey of the FISHY! (Animation)

This is my final task for literacy. What we got to do is a slide animation. It is basically an animation but on slides. For this one we got to choose whatever we wanted. At first my animation was just going to be about a fish finding candles. Until Mrs Stone and Mr Moran gave me some interesting ideas and here it is. Make sure to watch the whole things. I really enjoyed doing this since I’ve never actually done one before. ENJOY!

We know the way-Term 2 Animation!

This is my animation for term 2. It is about knowing the way. For this animation we had to have 3 different backdrops and a sphero traveling through them. We then had to make a voiceover which provides somesort of information about it. For me I did The Great Pyramids,Jungle and the Sea. I really enjoyed doing this because it helped me learn some new things I hope that you enjoy this animation and that you learn something fro it.

Stand up (History of NZ Protests) Activity #1

This week my reading group has been reading about NZ history of protest. We had to read the book online and got to pick 2 activities along with the book. This is my first activity about comprehension questions. Which is basically me answering questions about the book. I really found it interesting about looking back at NZ protests. I also really enjoyed learning about this topic as well. Hope you ENJOY!

Should animals be kept in zoos?

This is my reading task for the week. I had to read a book and discus whether I agree with the statement or not. The statement was animals should be kept in zoos. I disagree with this statement because I believe animals should have freedom. My group also had to do a debate on this topic. What do you think about the statement?

Information report-Hippos

This is my information report on Hippos. As usual I had to research about the animal and focus on 3 topics. I have really enjoyed researching about Hippos because I got to learn new things. I hope that you learn something from this just like I did. ENJOY!

Did you know that hippo’s are almost bulletproof? They can also open their mouths up to 150 degrees. In this information report I will be talking about 3 topics. Which are their habitat/diet,their family life/conservation and facts. I hope that by the end of this piece, you learn something about this animal.

First up their habitat and diet. Hippo’s are herbivores. Which means they only eat things like grass, vegetables and melons sometimes. They can eat up to 88 pounds per night! Hippo’s are native to Africa, and are all over Sub Saharan Africa. In Africa you can find Hippos in slow moving lakes and rivers.

Up next is their family life and conservation. Hippo’s hang out in groups that consist of 10-30 Hippo’s. However the groups can go up to 200 Hippos. There is always 1 dominant male in the group. Hippos’ gestation period is 8 months. Which is just 1 month less from humans. The months they give birth the most are the wettest. The conservation status of Hippos are vulnerable and endangered. The 2 types of Hippos are the common and the Pygmy Hippos.

Now finally some facts. The name Hippo comes from the Greek name of Water Horse. These animals can also reach up to 19 miles per hour. Male Hippos weigh up to 4000 pounds, while the baby’s only reach up to 100 pounds or less. Did you know that Hippos are actually not good swimmers? In fact they can only spend up to 5 minutes underwater. They are also the 2nd largest land animal, and the 3rd heaviest.

So in conclusion Hippos are some pretty fascinating animals. From their habitat to even their family life, Hippos are interesting. I hope that by the end of this information report that you have learnt something new.

Extension Term 2 Project -History/Brainstorms

This is my extension project I will be working on this term. For this term we looked into the history of  NZ. We also had to choose topics to film a movie. My group is Kiarah,Elijah and Leonidas. For our movie we will be focusing on transportation and resources. The reason why we picked transportation was because back then NZ would of had many different types of transportation then we do how. One of the main ones being transporting on a waka. We also picked resources because the resources people would’ve had back in the days would have been way different to what we have now.
